Mutual Exchange

North Devon Homes does not administer its own mutual exchange register but participates with the new national and independent exchange scheme called HomeSwapper.

This scheme is internet based and provides North Devon Homes' customers with a monthly updated list to view. The HomeSwapper service holds details of people requesting mutual exchanges within North Devon as well as details of those wishing to move into the area from elsewhere.

North Devon Homes have subscribed to this service to enable our customers to register FREE of charge. To join the scheme, register at www.homeswapper.co.uk stating your landlord is North Devon Homes. If you do not have a computer at home we have, for the sole use of North Devon Homes' customers, a computer at our Town Centre Office, 116-118 Boutport Street, Barnstaple, to register and search for possible swaps. The office is open 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Once you have registered, you will be able to go online and view matches. HomeSwapper can also email you at regular intervals with details of suitable exchange partners. If you do not have access to a computer, HomeSwapper can be sent via alerts to your mobile phone.

Please note: If you were registered with the HOMESWAP scheme, you will need to re-register with HomeSwapper as, due to Data Protection, your details cannot be transfered over.

When you have found an exchange, and you are both happy with each other's properties, you will need to seek your landlord's permission by completing a Mutual Exchange Form. These can be found at our Main and Town Centre Offices. Both parties will need to complete each form, whether they are a North Devon Homes' customer or not. See our 'Contact Us' page for our address.

If you no longer wish to be on the HomeSwapper register then contact HomeSwapper as soon as possible. This will prevent any inconvenience to yourself and other tenants.

Transfer To Another Property

If you wish to move to another of our properties, you need to fill in a Transfer Application Form, which will ensure that your name is placed on the Transfer Register. 

Not everyone will be able to transfer immediately and so a priority scheme has been established which awards points according to certain conditions (a copy of this scheme is available at our offices).  The more points you have the higher your priority. 

All applicants will be considered for properties that are appropriate to their needs and you will be given the chance to express a preference for a home in the parishes of your choice. 

To keep our records up-to-date, we will review the register on a yearly basis. If your name is on the register we will send you a reminder that your entry needs to be renewed. You must return the information to us by the required date; otherwise your name will be removed from the register.

Please be aware that if your rent account is in arrears or there are outstanding repairs to your home which are your responsibility or you have a recharge that has not been paid, then you will not normally be considered for a transfer. Once your account is clear, and/or repairs have been completed it is your responsibility to contact the office to ask for your application to be reinstated.
