Keep Warm, Stay Safe and Be Prepared!
It looks as though we are set for a cold winter and who knows, maybe even a white Christmas! With the cold weather here it is important to stay safe by getting prepared. Icy conditions can be dangerous and it is advisable, especially for the elderly, to avoid going outdoors when conditions are bad.
Stocking up your cupboards with food that has long life such as tinned goods, long like milk and frozen food will keep you in good supply. Thinking ahead is important, so medication, candles, matches and any other essentials are also a good idea to stock up on.
Whenever possible, helping out a less able Neighbour is a sure way to avoid any accidents or discomfort. Even if it means making a phone call or popping next door to say hello, it’s always a good idea to look out for one another.
Staying warm is important, wearing layers, regular hot drinks, nutritious meals and staying mobile are all things to remember. Fine tune your heating, keeping temperatures between the recommended 18°C and 21°C.
Remember, if you are planning on going out, make sure you are dressed for the temperature. It’s easy to forget how cold it gets outside when you are cosy indoors. If you are going outside and plan to drive please see the attached advice from the Highway Code.
