'Crack House' Closure in Barnstaple - 07.11.2008

North Devon Homes part of the team that secures closure of ‘crack house’ in Barnstaple, only the second application of its kind in North Devon

3 Poltimore Lawn, Barnstaple is now empty and has been boarded up following a successful application to the Court under Section 2 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act, 2003 for the premises to be closed. 3 Poltimore Lawn was found to have been used in connection with Class A controlled drugs and as a result serious nuisance had been caused to residents.

Numerous complaints, dating back to 2005, had been received by members of the public about drug related activities at the property. Working closely with the Police, Safer North Devon and Children and Young Peoples Services, evidence was gathered and joint thinking undertaken to seek a solution to these problems.

Miles Sellick, Neighbourhood Manager at North Devon Homes “We are very pleased with the outcome of this application and it shows how residents and agencies working together can tackle these issues. Although cases like these are the minority we will continue to target these individuals whose anti-social behaviour impacts on the wider community.”

PC Anna Fielding, Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Frankmarsh and Gorwell stated “The success of this application, the second of its kind in North Devon, is directly attributable to the community sharing their concerns with the Police and the local Housing provider, North Devon Homes, and supporting us in finding a solution.”
