Preserved Right to Buy

Most North Devon Homes’ customers, who were tenants of North Devon District Council before 21 February 2000, have the Preserved Right to Buy (PRTB). Under the PRTB you can buy your home for less than its open market value.

The discount you can get depends on your length of tenancy, but the maximum amount is currently £30,000. To apply for this you must first fill in a standard application form. We will then check the details and confirm to you whether or not you have the PRTB.

Right to Acquire

Most customers who came to North Devon Homes after 21 February 2000 can qualify for the Right to Acquire (RTA). Under the RTA you can buy your home for less than its open market value.

The discount is not linked to the length of your tenancy and is currently set at £10,000.

To apply for this you must first fill in a standard application form. We will then check the details and confirm to you whether or not you have the RTA.

* Please note that homes in small rural villages are excluded from the RTA.*
