You may keep domestic pets, such as a cat or a dog, in your home if the property is suitable and your pet does not cause a nuisance to your neighbours. You will first need to obtain written permission from NDH.
You must ensure that your pet is kept under control at all times and that any mess is cleared up. North Devon District Council can prosecute owners of dogs that foul public places under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
The following advice should help ensure that your pet does not cause a problem to your neighbours:
limit the numbers of pets you keep
give your dog plenty of exercise, away from other people’s property, and keep it under control at all times
never let your dog out unsupervised
never let your dog foul communal areas, pathways, gardens or verges - always pick up any mess even if accidentally deposited
never leave your dog alone all day - it is unfair to them and to your neighbours if they are continually barking
have your pet neutered to prevent unwanted breeding
