Our favourite restaurants

In North Devon we are extremely lucky to have an array of local restaurants to choose from for either a date night or family day out. We have popped a few of our favourite’s below with some information about our favourite dishes. Each of these eateries are based in Barnstaple, just a stone’s throw and walking distance from our Taw Wharf development on the riverside in the town.

Claytons and The Glasshouse

Just off the High Street in the centre of town you will find this fine dining glass roofed restaurant (hence the name!) The Glasshouse offers somewhere luxurious to eat some fine foods with locally sourced ingredients. The menu constantly changes so you can visit again and again without ever getting bored. Claytons, the lounge bar is also great for pre or post dinner cocktails!

Tea by the Taw

Not exactly a restaurant but a fantastic eatery in town. This small café offers a fantastic array of cakes, bakes and lunch items. With a river view from The Strand and outside seating it makes a wonderful stop during a day in Barnstaple. Plus, with traditional afternoon tea on the menu you will be glad to rest your feet!

Lush Bar & Restaurant

Lush is very quickly becoming one of the most popular places to eat in Barnstaple before a night out or at the end of a day in the town. The food and drink is something to shout about and the atmosphere is just the same! You can also enjoy a cocktail or two from the bar menu!

Fulham Chinese Restaurant

You can find the Fulham in the Cattle Market part of town, open since 1993 this longstanding Chinese restaurant is a family favourite in Barnstaple. There’s not much else to say about the Fulham, other than you can enjoy a great traditional Chinese meal out!

Lilico’s 1844

Lilico’s is right in the centre of town offering a sharing-style menu. Think meze, mini plates, burgers, wings, pizza and you are on the right lines! They also offer great cocktails and drinks in their bar too. If you are heading to the Theatre they also do some great package offers too!

Pelican Fish & Chips

A long term favourite English dish. The Pelican which is just outside of town in Sticklepath is always busy and a popular choice for a fish, chips and mushy pea tea!

Latitude 48

Love meat? Latitude has some fantastic burgers, sandwiches and the menu. For the veggie’s amongst us there are some amazing flatbreads and vegan options too! There’s also a great kid’s menu too for those fussier eaters in the family. Found right in the High Street it’s a great stop on a day out in town.

The pancakes. And no, that is not a dessert item! These savoury pancakes with a choice of toppings from pan-fried rump steak with horseradish cream, seafood in white wine cream or creamy mushroom and vegetables, are delicious! The menu is massive and you will surely struggle to pick just one thing, so return visits are a must!

Bull & Bear

When a menu starts with “Appetizers, Sharers and Dirty Fries” and ends with “Tin Can Cocktails” you know you have come to the right place! There are also burgers, nachos, ‘No food with a face’ options all on the menu too. The locally sourced dishes are delicious and there’s an array of choice available!
