The ball play area at Gorwell Park has recently benefitted from redecoration works which give the park a fresh new look, thanks to a joint initiative between North Devon Homes and National Citizen Service (NCS).
National Citizen Service helps school leavers learn life skills. Part of their four week course involves the children organising and carrying out a social action project which will benefit the community. The group chose to undertake the renovation of the ball park in Gorwell which was looking tired, with peeling paint and patches of bare masonry. The group put their proposal forward to North Devon Homes. The proposal included creating a design for the wall, asking for sponsorship towards materials from local suppliers, informing the community of their plans and carrying out the work. North Devon Homes’ repairs service Home2Home, donated the coloured paint that was used for the redecoration works and the young people also brought some paint with money raised from their fundraising activities.
North Devon Homes Neighbourhoods Manager, Lindsey Eastman said “Everyone is delighted with the results. The ball play area is such an important part of Gorwell Park which is used by many local children and families. It was great to be able to support this fantastic initiative from National Citizen Service and the young people involved. We would like to thank them for all their hard work in some quite challenging weather conditions – they have done a great job!”
