Yesterday we held a ‘Community Clear Up Day’ at Queens Avenue, Ilfracombe. The team of volunteers, which included staff from North Devon Homes, members of Ilfracombe Town Council, Community Timebank, Westcountry Maintenance Services and One Ilfracombe and people living in the local community, helped with litter picking, hedge and weed trimming, collecting unwanted household goods and a general tidy up of the estates. A skip was provided for local residents to dispose of their unwanted items. There was also a recycling area for people to leave unwanted goods or to browse to see if there was anything that they may like or need to take away.
The event was organised in response to feedback from local residents living at Queens Avenue, who approached North Devon Homes about the possibility of holding a ‘Clear Up Day’ in the area.
The event was a great success with all parties working together to improve the appearance of the local area; the team of volunteers amassed lots of bags of rubbish and collected numerous unwanted items which filled the skip provided during the 5 hour event. In addition, pathways were weeded and hedges trimmed.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event and worked together to help improve their local community.
