Today we held a ‘Community Clear Up Day’ at Wrafton. The team of volunteers, which included staff from North Devon Homes and people living in the local community helped with litter picking, hedge and weed trimming, collecting unwanted household goods and a general tidy up of the estates. A skip was provided for local residents to dispose of their unwanted items. There was also a recycling area for people to dispose of unwanted goods or to browse to see if there was anything that they may like or need to take away.
The event was organised after local residents living at Wrafton approached North Devon Homes about the possibility of holding a ‘Clear Up Day’ on the estate. Members of staff from North Devon Homes then met with residents to discuss this; Wrafton is a large estate and a walk around the area confirmed that a clear up event would be of benefit.
The event was a great success with all parties working together to improve the appearance of the local area; the team of volunteers amassed lots of bags of rubbish and collected numerous unwanted items which filled the skip provided during the 4 hour event. In addition, pathways were weeded and hedges trimmed.
Sue Smith, a local resident living at Wrafton, said 'Thank you to North Devon Homes for organising the 'Clear Up Day' everyone did an amazing job’.
North Devon Homes Director of Neighbourhoods, Marc Rostock, said “At North Devon Homes we are committed to creating communities where people want to live. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped out at the event - it’s great to see what can be achieved when people work together for the benefit of their local community.”
